Gum recession refers to the loss of gum tissue along the base of the tooth. The root of the tooth is exposed and the area can be sensitive or at high risk for cavities. Healthy gums are essential for a healthy mouth and getting treatment for gum recession is important for long term success. Recession can occur as a result of the natural aging process, heavy forces, aggressive brushing or periodontal disease.
The Procedure
We use the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique to treat recession with minimal surgery and stitches. There is no need to take tissue from a second site (usually the roof of the mouth). The graft is placed through a small pinhole or tunnel in the gums. Post procedure recovery is minimized.
